First Week At Home

One week!  We've made it through one week, yay!  I'm so happy this first week is behind us and it went faster then I thought.  Lots of ups and downs already but we are surviving some how.

Today we had a small hiccup where Titan is back to refusing all food.  We are even trying raw meat and he ate 3 pieces before turning his nose up at it.  We have received lots of suggestions from awesome people and have decided to try getting Titan onto a raw diet.  Thanks to Deb for the store suggestions of Heronview (http://www.heronviewrawandnatural.com/) and Country Lane (http://www.clpr.ca/raw-food.html).  We have looked into both places and think the price wouldn't be too far off what we pay now for the Acana kibble.  This weekend we will be heading out to investigate the store and speak with someone about how much we would need for our big guys and what supplements we would have to add.  I'm very excited to explore this option as I have always wanted to feed our guys a raw diet but thought it out of our price range.

Our other issue is still trying to get Titan up.  I'm concerned that he won't try to stand up yet to rotate from one side of the blanket to the other.  This worries me because he isn't using those back leg muscles and I don't want them to get weak.  He is starting to sit up more and then rotate using his front paws instead of just shuffling at least so his elbows are starting to heal.

Titan also fought us again when trying to help him up and go outside.  He waits until he's uncomfortable then finally gets up on his own and tries to go out the front door.  Not gonna happen!  Typical Titan though, we say no he wants to do it.  But even with his harness on he plants those big front paws and will not move forward.  It's only when he is panting and on the verge of having an accident will he even attempt to go out to the lawn.  At least he does make it outside and we still haven't had another accident in the house.  We are trying to be patient as he is suppose to be on bed rest for 2 weeks anyways, but it's always a concern in the back of my mind something has gone wrong and we can't see it.   In the mean time I am continuing the exercises to try and help those muscles stay strong.

On a good note, I can tell Titan is feeling much better as he lets Ares get closer and closer for cuddles every day.  And Ares is such a good and gentle boy and makes sure to give Titan kisses to let him know it's ok.  I hope this helps with his recovery and it's almost like Ares is even encouraging Titan to try and get up so they can go outside together.  I know they miss walking with each other.

 (I kiss you...)
 (...you kiss me)

So we continue on into week two with some new ideas and hopefully some better results.  The best thing we can continue doing for Titan is staying positive and happy.

Titan's leg at one week:

(The swelling has gone down to just a spot on his ankle and the red is pretty much gone)
