Today has been full of ups and downs again. We started our day off with a trip outside for hopefully a morning pee. No such luck, however we did get another poop. Ok, that's still a good sign everything is still trying to work. We also had a better time trying to get him outside and down the ramp. For the past few weeks before his surgery we have been taking Titan around the side of the house from the backyard and up the front steps to get inside. He seems to handle those stairs better, so when we were outside he kept trying to go around the side of the house. It's a good sign he wants to go for a walk and out to the front of the house, but it makes me sad having to tell him no and watch him get disappointed.
At 4pm we had a call from the vet for a follow up and we explained what was going on and the difficulties we were having. Right away the vet zoned in on the fact that he wasn't peeing. We were told if he hadn't peed by tonight to call back and he would need to come in. My heart sank, I did not want to take Titan back there so soon. We tried to get him out again before I went to work with no luck. So off I went hoping for a miracle. That miracle came via text message from Mike. Titan peed!! Another accident in the house but he made an effort to make it outside. I called the vet back right away and let them know what happened. Now our only task is to get Titan to eat a proper meal on his own.
The food struggle is still going on. We have the stewing beef, but he didn't take it this morning. We had to do another force feed for him to get his meds. Then for lunch my dad stopped in to visit and brought us Popeye's chicken strips, so on a hunch I went to see if Titan would try that. Sure enough he ate it! This dog is just working us now I think. He also ate more of his beef liver treats when we tried to play a game for mind stimulation. We take three cups and hide a treat under one and he has to find it. We did this for a bit and then went over his tricks like paw, touch, wait, kick, and point. This was great to keep him busy for an hour.
For his dinner meal and meds Mike was going to have to feed him without me as I had work. So again I got a miracle text message saying he ate the beef! Mike had made up some gravy and poured it over the beef in a frying pan and heated that up for a bit. We still had to get some of the pate into him, but once again it's a small step forward from this mornings food refusal.
Other then those two issues things are moving along well. The leg is less bruised and less swollen. He is toe touching a bit more and even sitting up and standing on his own more. This freaks me out as I am so worried he could trip and fall on that sore leg without the support from Mike. But he manages a little bit and even tried to go to the front door twice today. Titan also keeps trying to get us to let him on his couch. He whines and looks at it, then after not getting results from us, he rests his chin on the couch and sighs heavily to make a point. As I write this post Titan has maneuvered himself, on his own, into my spot in the living room. That's his signal that he wants some cuddles to fall asleep so I can't argue with that.
(Giving me a raspberry because I won't let him on the couch)
